Coffee contains tannins and antioxidants which are good for the heart and arteries. Studies suggest that moderate coffee-drinkers have an 80% lower risk of Parkinson's disease, a 25% lower risk of colon cancer, a 50% lower risk of kidney stones and an 80% lower risk of cirrhosis of the liver. In addition, it has recently been shown that coffee may cut the risk of type II diabetes and that a decaffeinated extract of green coffee may be effective in controlling weight.

Green Coffee Extract 200 mg is a specific polyphenol extract of green coffee of the Coffea arabica variety, standardized to contain at least 45% chlorogenic acids and a maximum of 2% caffeine. Green coffee contains many more chlorogenic acids than roasted coffee because the roasting process largely destroys these delicate substances.

¤ Several in vitro, animal and clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of chlorogenic acids in reducing both liver glucose production and blood sugar levels as well as in preventing the conversion of sugar into fat reserves:
in a reversible, linear and selective way, chlorogenic acids inhibit the glucose enzyme 6-phosphatase, which results in a reduction in gluconeogenesis (glucose production) in the liver. When there is less sugar available, the body has to rely on its fat reserves to meet its energy production needs.

¤ In a recent clinical study involving 75 healthy adults in Moscow, postprandial glycaemia (following a meal) was reduced by 15-20% in subjects supplemented with 90 mg of chlorogenic acids (the dose provided by one capsule of Green Coffee Extract 200 mg).

¤ And in an animal study, green coffee extract reduced, in a dose-dependent manner, post-prandial fat absorption and triglyceride levels.

¤ Green coffee extract was shown, in an in vitro study, to inhibit the enzyme lipase which reduces hydrolysis and intestinal absorption of dietary fats.

¤ Green coffee extract decreased abdominal fat in animals fed to the point of satiety over a six-week period.

¤ Green coffee extract has a beneficial effect on weight control without stimulating the central nervous system, and without any rebound effect due to a fall in metabolism when supplementation ceases.

¤ Green Coffee Extract 200 mg is also a powerful antioxidant which protects fibroblasts 100% from irradiation-induced cyto-toxicity. Similarly, production of malondialdehyde (a marker of oxidation) was reduced by 46% following exposure of keratinocytes to a powerful pro-oxidant, TBHP. The antioxidant activity of chlorogenic acids, their hepato-toxicity and proliferative activity inhibitory role have been supported by a number of other studies.
Each vegetarian capsule contains 200 mg of a polyphenol extract of green coffee, standardised to provide a at least 45% cholorogenic acid and no more than 2% caffeine.
