Hair Growth Booster is a natural dietary supplement targeted at hair growth. It contains biotin, which supports the health of the hair and scalp, arginine, magnesium, and silicon; natural ingredients which have been widely studied by scientists for their effects on normal hair growth.
In this patented formulation, these ingredients are bound in an unprecedented way, to ensure maximum bioavailability of biotin and silicon. Pharmacokinetic studies have shown optimal uptake of arginine silicate and magnesium biotinate, both of which are in our supplement.
This hair growth booster is listed in our category: Care for skin, hair and nails.
How Exactly does Hair Growth Booster Benefit the Hair?
Hair Growth Booster, arguably the best supplement of its kind on the market, contains two essential and synergistic ingredients in highly absorbable forms: biotin and silicon. It is aimed at both thinning hair and frizzy hair.
Biotin
Also called vitamin B8, biotin is essential for the body to function optimally, especially regarding renewal of hair and skin. Though the body is able to produce it via the gut flora, exogenous intake is vital. Because of its role in hair growth and skin function, it is a common ingredient in lotions and shampoos aimed at stemming hair loss (alopecia).
In our supplement, it is its ionic form (biotin salt) which ensures 40 times better solubility than the usual form (1).
Silicon
Silicon is a mineral involved in the structuring of connective tissue and the integumentary system, including the hair. As numerous studies have shown, it supports normal collagen production and is concentrated in the hair, including body hair.
In our formulation, it is offered in the form of arginine silicate, which offers superior uptake by the body. It is bound to arginine, a ‘semi-essential’ amino acid which plays a pivotal role in cell division, a key process in hair renewal.
Some Facts About Hair Growth
The life of each hair is ephemeral. The hair follicle which supports it undergoes cycles of growth and rest:
- A growth phase. This lasts between 2 and 4 years in men, and 4 to 6 years in women. During this phase, the root produces a long hair, the hair shaft.
- A transition phase. This lasts between 2 and 4 weeks. The follicle shortens and hair growth gradually stops.
- A rest phase. The hair stops growing for 3 to 4 months and the lower part of the follicle shrinks. At the end of this phase, the hair bulb disappears, initiating loss of the hair.
- A new growth phase. The follicle re-forms and a new hair is issued from the same root that produced the hair that fell out.
Over the course of a lifetime, the hair follicle repeats this cycle 10 to 12 times. Fortunately, hair renewal is continuous and asynchronous, such that it passes completely unnoticed.
Factors in Hair Growth and Loss
Many factors affect hair growth and accelerate hair loss (2).
- Seasonal factors. Hair growth is more pronounced in summer than in winter, because of the sun.
- Mechanical factors. When regularly subjected to styling techniques such as blow-drying, very tight braids or buns, hair growth decelerates and hair loss accelerates.
- Chemical factors. Frequent bleaching, unsuitable shampoos and perms weaken the hair shaft and hasten hair loss.
- Sex hormones, particularly the male reproductive hormone. Under the effect of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase, the male reproductive hormone is converted into DHT in the body. In men in particular, this compound serves to shorten the growth phase of the hair follicle: the hair cycle accelerates and is over more quickly than expected. The root then produces a weaker, thinner hair, which becomes down-like before disappearing completely. This is the onset of baldness, also known as androgenic alopecia. This process is common to all men, but some are genetically predisposed to it, either because they secrete more DHT, or because their follicles are more sensitive to androgens, or because of excessive 5-alpha-reductase activity. Women are less affected because they produce less male reproductive hormone and because the average length of their hair cycles is longer.
- Gender factors. Women’s hair grows faster than men’s, and children’s hair grows faster during periods of growth.
- Nutritional factors. Many dietary imbalances can adversely affect hair growth, thickness and pigmentation: a lack of protein, sulphur-containing amino acids (cystine, methionine, cysteine), trace-elements (copper, zinc, iron, phosphorus, lead, arsenic), vitamins (A, B5, B6, B12, C, E, H, PP) and essential fatty acids (linoleic, linolenic).
- The circulation. When blood flow is impaired by hypercholesterolemia or diabetes for example, cell division decelerates and hair growth is slower.
- Infections and medications. Non-serious infections such as the flu, and certain drugs, especially blood thinners, diuretics and cancer treatments, all accelerate hair loss.
What Natural Ways are There of Promoting Hair Re-Growth?
- Eat foods rich in biotin like brewer’s yeast (179 µg/100 g), royal jelly (107 µg/100 g), oilseeds (49 µg/100 g) and to a lesser degree, nuts (almonds, walnuts).
- Avoid eating raw eggs and reduce your alcohol consumption: both prevent biotin from being correctly absorbed.
- Include more zinc-rich foods in your diet: oysters, shellfish, fish, liver, nuts (almonds, walnuts).
- In summer, protect your hair from the sun. UV rays promote the breakdown of melanin, responsible for hair color, oxidize keratin, and reduce hair’s resistance, making it brittle and prone to falling out.
- Take regular exercise. Blood pressure increases during physical activity, which stimulates vasodilation of arterioles and helps provide the hair bulbs with all the nutrients and oxygen they need.
- Make sure you eat a balanced diet. Hair follicles are very sensitive to nutrient deficiencies: hair growth is directly dependent on nutritional status. In any abnormal hair loss, dietary imbalances are always the first suspects (3).
- Control your stress levels: stress reduces blood flow in the scalp and can increase the secretion of androgens which cause hair loss.
- Stop smoking: it degrades sulphur-containing amino acids (precursors of keratin) and reduces microcirculation in the scalp.
How Should our Anti-Hair Loss Supplement Hair Growth Booster be Taken on a Daily Basis?
We recommend taking 2 capsules a day for at least 12 weeks. If you have noticed unusual hair loss, you could also combine this special hair growth supplement with an anti-hair loss lotion.
Which Additional Supplements can be Taken to Boost the Radiance of your Hair?
You can take other vitamin and mineral supplements alongside our hair growth formulation, preferably under the supervision of a health professional:
- or B group vitamins.
- or vitamin E, which helps combat thinning hair by protecting cells against oxidative stress.
- Precursors of keratin such as sulphur-containing amino acids (cystine, cysteine, methionine).
- zinc, a seborrhea regulator which supports keratin production and plays a key role in the growth of integuments.
You can also use strengthening plant extracts, either topically to massage the scalp and promote blood flow, or orally in the form of capsules or herbal teas.
Examples of well-known plant extracts include: nettle, thyme and rosemary for topical use, and hair supplements containing green tea, and African plum for oral use, usually in capsules.
