What Is Luteolin?

Luteolin (3',4',5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone) is a plant-derived flavonoid that may be found in certain foods such as parsley, celery, thyme, artichokes, propolis, etc.* Part of the flavone subclass of polyphenols, luteolin might be known for its yellow hue and potential antioxidant properties.*

Luteolin may play a role in helping the body manage oxidative stress, especially at the mitochondrial level – where energy might be generated and free radicals produced.* It is one of the most studied flavonoids, with research exploring its potential in supporting brain health, cellular integrity, and immune balance.*

In fact, luteolin seems to have been long used in traditional wellness practices and the focus of more than 2,000 scientific publications exploring its potential to support brain function and healthy aging.*

Our Luteolin supplement is extracted from groundnut and formulated in vegetarian capsules for daily use. Its suggested serving is 100 mg per day, ideally taken with meals to help support optimal absorption, especially when combined with other flavonoids.*

Potential Benefits of Luteolin*

Eventual Anti-Aging Support*

Mitochondria – sometimes referred to as the powerhouses of cells – may become less efficient with age, potentially increasing the presence of free radicals.* Some research seems to suggest that luteolin could help maintain mitochondrial health by supporting the body’s natural antioxidant defenses, possibly making it an interesting longevity compound.*

Some findings appear to indicate that luteolin may offer notable antioxidant activity compared to vitamins C and E in laboratory settings, potentially helping to protect DNA from oxidative stress.* By possibly helping to protect cellular components from oxidative exposure, luteolin may contribute to cellular integrity.* It also seems to have been studied for its potential to support healthy DNA methylation, a natural process that might play a key role in cellular maintenance and gene expression.*

Possible Healthy Inflammatory Response*

Certain studies seem to suggest that luteolin may help the body manage inflammatory responses by potentially influencing signaling molecules such as interleukin 6 (IL-6) and interleukin 1β.* This might help support normal cellular function and contribute to cognitive performance, including areas like memory and focus.* Some research also appears to indicate that luteolin could help maintain mitochondrial health by offering antioxidant activity in response to oxidative stressors.*

Similar to flavonoids such as quercetin and rutin, luteolin may help the body regulate reactions to environmental triggers by modulating enzymes such as lipoxygenase.* It may also be studied for its potential to help maintain lipid balance by possibly protecting LDL particles from exposure to free radicals in laboratory settings.*

Cellular Health and Antioxidant Support*

Research on luteolin seems to have explored its potential impact on cellular activity, especially in preclinical models.* Some studies in mice appear to suggest that luteolin supplementation may support balanced cell cycles and antioxidant defenses.* In these investigations, luteolin possibly showed promising activity in modulating cell proliferation pathways and encouraging detoxification processes.*

Additional laboratory research seems to have observed that luteolin may help cells respond more effectively to oxidative stimuli by influencing pathways related to cell survival and renewal.* These effects are currently being examined in vitro using different human cell types to attempt to better understand luteolin’s potential role in cell signaling and mitochondrial health.*

Ongoing scientific exploration appears to have highlighted luteolin’s potential ability to influence biochemical processes such as apoptosis and enzyme modulation, which could play a role in maintaining normal cellular function.* While these studies are preliminary, they might build interest in luteolin as a botanical compound that could support antioxidant resilience and cellular integrity.*

I used this product in an attempt to reduce inflammation following vaccine administration multiple times. Together with oral rehydration, luteolin seemed to help.

I can immediately think more clearly. Removes brain fog

I would prefer to take fewer capsules--a product containing 100mg luteolin per capsule would be nice.
